One of the Best Bun Bo in Danang
When I traveled to Danang, Vietnam two years ago I was fortunate enough to link up with a super popular Foodie/Blogger turned Chef, Summer Le. She also is now Owner and Executive Chef of Nen, the most Modern Refined Vietnamese Restaurant in Danang. She played host to me for a full day, by bringing me to all her favorite local spots.
We're talking places that only locals know about, hidden in areas you don't see restaurants or ones that don't even have a menu. Ba Dieu was one of these spots.
They serve Bun Bo and everyone goes there for that. AND...It was AMAZING.
What is Bun Bo? It's Basically Rice Noodle Soup with Beef.
I've never had Bun Bo done this way before. I've only had Bun Bo Hue in the states and so this would be my first time trying a slightly different version. Immediately I notice the broth to be much lighter in color than Bun Bo Hue. It's got less spices than the Hue version. The broth however is super flavorful and pairs extremely well with the pickled shallots and peppers they serve along side. The sweet and sour pickles brought out the umami of the broth and made the broth a lot more exciting than the traditional Beef Pho.
If you are in Danang, you MUST MUST go to Ba Dieu and order their Bun Bo. Just point to the lady in that little cart and she'll ladle you the most amazing bowl of Beef Noodle Soup filled with things like tripe, blood pudding, brisket, pigs trotters, chives, etc.
Sit amongst the locals and take in the neighborhood. You'll feel like a true local and enjoy an incredibly satisfying bowl of noodle soup that costs less than a dollar.
