Dinner @ Eleven Madison Park : Awarded #1 Best Restaurant in the World 2017
Let's take a break from my Bali Travel Blogs for a minute here and cover something entirely different. 2 years ago I had the pleasure of dining at Eleven Madison Park in New York during the holidays. New York is one of my favorite cities to visit for many reasons and food is obviously top on that list. So whenever we visit, we always make sure we hit up a few noteworthy spots. This time, we scored a reservation at Eleven Madison Park!
Eleven Madison Park has accumulated quite a reputation for itself as one of the best restaurants not only in America but in the world after it was sold to Chef Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, both of which had been working at Eleven Madison when Danny Meyers had owned it. Ever since Chef Humm took over in 2011, it has been awarded Three Michelin stars, James Beard accolades for Outstanding Service, Outstanding Chef, Outstanding Pastry Chef, and Outstanding Restaurant. Every year they have been climbing to a higher and higher ranking on World's Best Restaurant List and this year they hit #1 in the world!
Scoring a reservation at Eleven Madison Park has never been an easy feat but now that it's #1 in the world, I can only imagine it's gotten even harder to book. So for those of you who are curious what a meal at Eleven Madison Park entails, below are some shots I took of our entire meal at the restaurant back in 2015 when it was ranked at #5 in the world.
Our meal begins with a box...
There was a chocolate course along with some mignardise which we skipped as not only were we full beyond the breams but also running behind in meeting some friends after dinner. The dinner itself lasts about 3.5 hours and if you throw in a pre dinner cocktail and take photos of every dish, the dinner can easily hit 4 hours or more.
Overall the meal was extremely memorable with a few outstanding dishes I would definitely want to come back to IF I could solely order those exact dishes and skip some of the others. If I were to compare it to some other restaurants I've been to that's also on the top 50 list in the world, I can honestly say there are better ones on the list that I've enjoyed more. Ones where I would happily pay the hefty price tag for the experience and the food again, waiting in anticipation for what new journey the Chef intends to create for his or her diners.
So for those of you who want to get a taste of the #1 Restaurant in the World or just plain curious but don't want to sit through 3.5 hours of dinner or fork over close to $300/person for a meal not including any beverages and gratuity, you can sample some of their dishes by opting for their Bar Menu. Or you can go visit their other restaurant at the Nomad Hotel, called Nomad Restaurant. It's an easier table to score with food that's more satisfying and wallet friendly. They have a beautifully decadent roasted chicken with truffle, foie, and brioche that is divine.
Lastly, I didn't get to share the granola and the chocolates that we were given on our way out of Eleven Madison Park. The granola worked perfectly as my breakfast in the morning and the chocolates were a fun thing to have the next day when we were not so full.
