Hi.

Welcome to my site. Here you will find exciting mashups of my very own recipes for the everyday home cook. I draw influences from my days working as an Executive Chef at my own Chinese restaurant in Downtown San Francisco, as well as inspiration from various cuisines I experience from all my travels.

ENJOY!

I Fell in Love w/ Bambu Restaurant Seminyak

When it comes to choosing restaurants to dine at in Seminyak, Bali you'll find an enormous selection ranging from high end to low end street food. I love having a mix of both when I travel to different countries. It's the best way to experience food. Keep an open mind and try everything from bottom to top. Amongst the many fabulous meals I had in Bali, Seminyak was one city I found to have the biggest selection of hip cool spots dishing either Fusion-Indo Cuisine or modern and refined Balinese Food. I was fortunate enough to have a Indonesian customer of Fang restaurant give me a list of restaurant recommendations that he fancies when he visits home every year. Bambu Restaurant was one of them on the list and so I went. Below are some images we shot of the restaurant and the food we had. All I have to say is I fell in love with everything there, from the ambience, the decor, the food, and the service.

The entrance of the restaurant is hidden on a busy street. Upon entering you walk across this floating path of steps lit up with candles as you move across a zen like pond.

Perfectly grilled chicken satay laquered in this sticky, spicy and sweet sauce. The bits of charred parts on the chicken add a beautiful smokiness and slight bitterness that complements the sweetness of the sauce. It's paired with a composed salad made of green beans, bean sprouts, freshly smashed peanut, coconut, lime shallot dressing. Need I say more?

Fried Fresh Giant Prawns with Balinese Curry Sauce. These prawns were perfectly fried and full of flavor. Just look at the size of those things!

Our entree spread with all the delectable house made chili sauces and sides. I got the Roasted Duck wrapped in banana leaf and my husband got the Grilled Steak with Balinese Spices, lime and crisp shallots. Being seated right on the edge of the water, made the view quite enjoyable throughout dinner. It's the perfect spot for an easy romantic dinner for two or a nice group dinner with friends.

Stir Fried Morning Glory in all it's glory:) Lightly tossed with shallot, garlic, peanut oil, chilis and dried shrimp paste. And of course some corn fritters on the side because those light fluffy fried bites are soo addicting. Think of an Asian Version of a hushpuppy flecked with freshly shucked corn and chilis.

Ok so we skipped ordering dessert but we still got this nice little surprise on the house: These chocolate truffles coated in nuts, sesame and spices paired with a house-made vanilla bean gelato. And so we ate it:) but couldn't move for the next 20 minutes. #foodcoma

Before leaving the restaurant, we took one last shot of this stunning place. The floating pavilion dining room behind me, holds large groups and the long walkway dining room on the right holds smaller tables. Request to sit right on the edge so you can see everything and hear the peaceful pitter patter of water. There is also a bar here which I would skip as there are plenty of other great spots to hit up not too far from here.

Thank you Bambu for treating us to such a fabulous meal. Everything here was done just perfectly. We will be back! And for those of you who plan to travel to Seminyak, make sure Bambu Restaurant Seminyak is on your list for dinner.
