A Day In Athens
After speaking with a few folks about traveling to Greece, we were convinced that we didn't need more than one full day in Athens. Having now done a full day in Athens, I realize that there is way more to experience in Athens than you can fit in a day. Here are few highlights from my day in Athens!
1. One on One Greek Mythology Tour: I was fortunate enough to do a private one on one Greek Mythology Tour when visiting the Acropolis. I highly recommend doing this than visiting with a tour group. I'm sure most of you are familiar with, have read at some point in your lives stories of Greek Mythology. But there is no way you can remember it all. To have a guide give you in depth stories as you see these amazing sites/ruins just gives things a grander perspective. It was truly the highlight of my day there.
2. Stroll the flea markets, shops and cafe. There is a an area locals go to and an area that is more touristic. Go to both, but you'll definitely find cheaper and neater items in the local area.
3. Eat at the local cafes! Don't miss the kebabs, souvlaki, and gyro wraps. Just when I thought how much better can a kebab gyro wrap be compared to the states, I was proven wrong. The meat has so much flavor. It's freshly grilled, moist, and fragrant. And don't get my started on the Pita. The pita is freshly made, grilled to perfection, warm, buttery, slightly chewy with just the right amount of doughy spring. All this for $1.50! Doesn't get better than that. And don't forget to try Koulouria, Greek Sesame Bread Rings. We visited the oldest bakery in Athens that sold these delicious snacks.
4. Stroll the Plaka Neighborhood at night. It's bustling with people and energy. Shops open late, people are out..just a fantastic vibe. Grab a cocktail, grab a freddo, grab gelato...options are limitless
