Kecak Dance at Uluwatu Temple, Indonesia
You can certainly watch Kecak Dance in multiple venues throughout Indonesia but this one in particular is stunning as it's done by the Uluwatu Temple. The site itself is breathtaking due to the ocean views and cliffs. Aside from the views being a huge plus, the cute monkeys that take over this area is another attraction. And finally, you can hop over to the Alila Villas Uluwatu for a super chic and modern Balinese Dinner after the show or a cocktail and bites before you head to the temple for the show.
Snap a few photos along the way as you trek your way to the show
They have multiple show times but, I recommend going during sunset so you can watch the beautiful sky change in colors during the show.
Another highlight of watching the Kecak Show at the Uluwatu Temples are the monkeys!! They weave through the temples and the hillside in abundance and aren't afraid of humans. Which means you should also be aware of your belongings. These monkeys get handsey and can be naughty:) Any loose items like sunglasses, scarves, cameras can be snatched away from you within a blink of an eye so keep loose items in bags.
Once you arrive to the outdoor venue for the show, find a seat near the entrance and not deep into the arena as the show goes quite long and there really aren't any exit rows which means, bathroom breaks are not likely and a very slow exit out of the arena if you are high up on the rows. Aside from that, bring a camera and admire the visually stunning show.
After the show, we booked a lovely dinner at Alila Villas Uluwatu. It's not too far from the temple and has some incredible modern balinese architecture. The lounge hangs over a cliff with views of the sea and the food is superb. Warung serves refined Traditional Balinese Cuisine served in a serene zen like space.
Upon being seated, you get this beautiful tray of condiments, dipping sauces, freshly fried shrimp chips, cassava and taro root chips. Note half of those include chili in them so if you like spice, this tray has your name written all over it.
Dinner was super satisfying and the setting was perfect. My only regret is not having coming to Alila Villas earlier. I really wanted to see the lounge during daylight so you can see how breathtaking the lounge looks hanging over the cliff. But that meant, we would have to come before the show, meaning have late afternoon drinks and just light bites and not dinner. Which I'm ok with. As you can see from the photos below, the darkness doesn't do the space any justice in photos.
Nonetheless, it was still an incredible time! Hiking the Uluwatu temples, catching the Kecak Dance, seeing monkeys and then a fabulous dinner at Warung, Alila Villas Uluwatu.
